This whole thing started for us way back in 2003. It began with 4 and then we suckered in another, and eventually another. Looking back on the life of this band tells a pretty great story. It’s full of ups and downs like any great story. It goes something like this:
We were young and idealistic. We dropped out of college. We bought a van and borrowed a trailer. We met the right people. We met the right bands. People gave us a chance. We got lucky. We got screwed. We worked our asses off. We went on shitty tours. We went on amazing tours. We played awkward shows we regret. We played hometown shows with Colour Revolt. We slept on passenger van floors in parking lots. We slept in hotel rooms. We were hosted by millionaires. We were hosted by lonely dudes with shotgun wounds. We picked up hitchhikers. We got tattoos. We ran a bus on vegetable oil. We swam in the Pacific. We swam in the Atlantic. We made albums we’re proud of. We had good reviews. We had a few bad reviews. We fought like brothers. We stood up in each others weddings. We had near death experiences. We got lost together. We prayed together. We got drunk together. We lost faith together. We believed in big things together.
We’ve worked together. Rented together. Let each other down. Made each other proud. Celebrated new life and expanding families. Mourned together. Cried together. We’ve made hard decisions and supported each other. We’ve built community together, and it continues to grow and take new shape every day.
We’ve always said that this thing we call “so long forgotten” exists beyond the 6 of us. As we look back on our story, that couldn’t be more true. Fans, promoters, producers, bands, became our closest friends and family. Our lives are forever more compelling, interesting, and beautiful because we’re suckers for good music and great company.
The world we live in is not fixed. It’s not static. Things happen in seasons. Seasons come to an end. Some end with burned bridges. Other’s end with a party.
13 years later this season, this beautiful thing we’ve called “so long forgotten” comes to an end, and it will end with a huge party.
Our final record will be out April 5th. Our final shows will be in Chicago April 22nd and Champaign April 23rd. We’d love to see you all there to celebrate with us.
Thank you for being a part of this. We are forever grateful.
Grace and peace,
Joe, Dustin, PJ, Cameron, Todd, and Micah
